Comparing CliftonStrengths to Other Assessments

Several years ago, I had a conversation with an executive who was about to take the CliftonStrengths assessment. I'll never forget what he said (in part because I've heard it a few times since): "Marla, I've taken a lot of assessments in my time, and they all tell me pretty much the same thing. Honestly, I don't expect this one to tell me anything I don't already know about myself."


"I totally understand," I responded. "After you take the assessment, we'll review your results and see what you think."


He took the CliftonStrengths assessment and we scheduled an hour to discuss his results. At the end of that hour, he said, "OK, this assessment really is different. There's some interesting information that wasn't uncovered by other assessments, and it's definitely accurate."


I've been asked a number of times how CliftonStrengths compares to other assessments like Myers-Briggs® and DiSC. It's a challenging question to answer. Thankfully, Gallup provides detailed insights into how CliftonStrengths compares to quite a few of the most popular assessments. It's fascinating research, especially for anyone high in Input or Analytical, as well as those of us who like to "geek out" on assessments (I see you, Industrial Organizational Psychologists!). ;-)
